Find yourself in a library

This May, celebrate your local library during Library and Information Week from the 21 to 27 May. The Upper Lachlan Shire Libraries will be having various activities and events. The theme for Library and Information Week 2018 is 'Find yourself in a library'. Pop into your local library and find out about some of the library’s digital resources. Libraries are so much more than brick and mortar buildings, with advancing technology, you are now able to find yourself in a library anywhere that you can connect to the internet!

What’s on during Library and Information Week:

All week - Crookwell Library Book Sale, Crookwell Memorial Hall Foyer during library opening hours until Thursday 31st May.

All week – Find out about the new library product Bolinda BorrowBox which enables library members to browse and borrow bestselling ebooks and e-audio books on their Apple or Android device through digital loans. BorrowBox is FREE to download. Drop into the library to find out more.

Thursday the 24th May - National Simultaneous Storytime, Crookwell Library @ 11:30am. This year we'll be reading "Hickory, Dickory, Dash" by Tony Wilson & Laura Wood. Join us for a fun morning.

Friday the 25th May - Australia's Biggest Morning Tea in support of the Cancer Council @ the Gunning Library, 10:30am.

 

Tech Savvy Seniors – Free Computer Classes

Has the internet always been a mystery to you? Do you have difficulties using computers and other technology? If so, then come along to any of the free computer workshops being offered at the Crookwell Library during May and June.

Introduction to computers:
Wednesday the 23rd May 9-11am, or
Wednesday the 6th June 9-11am

Introduction to the Internet:
Wednesday the 23rd May 11:15-1:15, or
Wednesday the 30th May 11:15-1:15

Tech Savvy Seniors is an initiative of the NSW Ageing Strategy and is funded through a partnership between the NSW Government and Telstra, and with the assistance and participation of the Upper Lachlan Shire Library Service.

 

Crookwell Library Book Sale

The annual Crookwell Friends of the Library book sale will continue throughout May until Thursday the 31st May. There will be Adult and Young Adult fiction, non-fiction, large print, children’s books, magazines and lots more. Grab a bargain! Everything is $2.00 or fill a bag for $10.00.

As books for sale are replenished each day you may wish to visit more than once to grab a bargain. Make sure to leave yourself plenty of time to browse through the hundreds of items available.

Proceeds from the sale of books will go towards funding extra services at your library, including StoryTime, school holiday activities, magazine subscriptions, and library events.

When: During library opening hours until Thursday 31st May.

"Prostate Cancer: What You Need To Know" - talk by Jim Ryan, Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia

Author talk: Sport in Australian Culture, with local author and 2GN sports presenter, Matthew Geddes

Matthew will share untold stories from Australian sport, the importance of sport in Australian culture and behind the scenes of 2GN’s “Weekly Sports Wrap”.

Author Visit: Kim Hodges, Thursday 5th July

Acclaimed author Kim Hodges is coming to Crookwell and Gunning Libraries to talk about her books 'Girl on the Edge' and 'Girl over the Edge'. She will share with us her upbringing in the small NSW country town of Coolah and her own mental health journey.

Regular Events

Scrabble at Crookwell Library

Come and join the fun of the Crookwell Library Friends’ monthly Scrabble Afternoons. Scrabble is held in the Crookwell Library every FIRST TUESDAY of the month from 1pm, followed by afternoon tea. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun.

Please bring a gold coin donation for afternoon tea. No bookings are required.

 

 

 

Knitting at Gunning Library

The Gunning Library Knitting Circle is held on the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month. All welcome. No bookings are required.

 

 

Storytime

The themed sessions run for approximately 45 minutes and consist of stories and an age relevant craft activity or creative play. Children from ages 0-5 years are welcome to attend Storytime. Storytime is free and no bookings are required.

Storytime is held at the Crookwell Library every Thursday at 11:30am during the school term.

Storytime is held at the Gunning Library every 1st and 3rd Friday at 10:45am during the school term.

Storytime is not held during school holidays.
