Have your say: Shire’s streetscapes

The community is encouraged to have their say on the beautification of the Shire’s town centres, via a survey, launched today.

Upper Lachlan Shire Council’s Acting General Manager Andrew Croke said the survey would help inform Council’s project to develop a Streetscape Themes Guide to guide future improvements to the town centres of Crookwell, Gunning, Taralga, Bigga, Binda, Collector, Laggan, Dalton, Grabben Gullen, Tuena, Jerrawa and Breadalbane.

“Council has engaged Bywong based company Fresh Landscape Design to manage the project and a working group comprising Deputy Major John Stafford and Councillors Richard Opie and John Searl and Council staff has been established to help inform the project’s initial stages,” Mr Croke said.

“The Streetscape Themes Guide will include landscape design principles, which will be used to create greater cohesion throughout the Shire, while allowing the towns and villages to retain their unique charm.

“Our town centres are the hubs of our communities. They are also the gateways to our Shire and are often the first impression given to visitors.

“It is important that our town centres reflect the vibrancy and beauty of our Shire and contribute to making the Upper Lachlan an attractive place to live, work, invest and visit now and into the future.

“This project will guide the future look and feel of our towns and villages, so it is essential that we get it right.

“I’d encourage everyone with an interest in this project to complete the survey by Monday, 21 August 2017.”

To further inform the project, Fresh Landscape Design will hold discussions with key community groups and local representatives across the Shire during August. Many of these groups are already holding meetings to collate community ideas ready for discussion with Fresh Landscape Design.

The ideas of the Shire’s young people will also be canvassed through a competition for school-aged children. Further details will be provided shortly.

The survey can be completed online via the following link: www.upperlachlan.nsw.gov.au/council/other-public-documents. Copies of the survey are also available from Council’s offices in Crookwell, Gunning and Taralga and from Crookwell and Gunning Libraries.
